Postman API Day Sri Lanka— 2023

Postman API Day Sri Lanka— 2023

My Experience and learnings at the very first Postman API Day Sri Lanka 2023.

Ignited at Ignite. Dived into the GitHub Universe. Celebrated the devfest. And It’s now the 4th one in the row of my exploration Journey in Tech Events!

Yes, I was There! Yes, I was part of history-making! The very first

POSTMAN API DAY 2023 in Sri Lanka.

Let me share with you what it held.

The first session for the day was by Raveen Perera, Backend Developer at Relai on the topic “Golang profile 101”. He spoke about Go language, it’s major abstractions, different kinds of profilers, their usage, troubleshooting problems and about profile graphs. It was an insightful session.

What it followed is a session on “Leverage Postman to Build Efficient GraphQL API” by well-known Sajeetharan Sinnathurai, who is serving as Senior Program Manager at Azure CosmosDB and the ranked number one Stack overflow contributor from Sri Lanka which is really impressive and inspiring. He gave an introduction about what’s API before diving into what’s GraphQL, basic concepts, REST vs GraphQL and characteristics of good graphQL API.

The next session was by an AI/ML enthusiast Sahan Dissanayaka, who is a Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador and final year Computer Science Undergraduate at University of Colombo School of Computing. The theme was “Deploy end-to-end machine learning Pipeline with FastAPI powered API & Postman”. He gave an introduction to FastAPI and dived into demonstrations.

Up next, we had the break and the group photo capturing. We had to wait until the end of the event for refreshments because of a delay, probably because of the bulk order, but the wait was worth it as the pizzas were delicious.

After that, we had an entertainment session by the University of Colombo School of Computing(UCSC) Music Circle. The vibrant show was ear-pleasing.

Next, we had a session on “gRPC testing with Postman" by Kaveesha Gimhana, a Postman Student Leader and a Software Engineer at CareHires. He elaborated on what’s gRPC, why gRPC, SOAP vs REST vs gPRC and did demonstrations.

Then we had the awarding ceremony for the “Postman Student Expert Challenge" winners which was a challenge published on social media prior to the event with the task of completing the student expert course by the postman. The first ten winners were given a plaque at the event.

Finally, the event ended with the thanking note of Suvin Nimnaka, a Postman Student Leader who played a key role in organizing this event. A big kudos to the organizing committee, speakers, participants and everyone who was involved in organizing the inaugural Postman API Day in Sri Lanka in a grand way. Fingers crossed for the 2.0.

Before leaving the premises everyone assembled outside to capture a gathering photo.

Here’s some of my memories at the event.
